BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation guides non-profits towards crowdfunding

BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation recently teamed up with Ulule.com in order to help non-profit making enterprises and charity organisations to diversify their sources of financing. The Foundation welcomes the arrival of the first such financing campaigns on the online crowdfunding platform.

Now that non-profits are having to cope with reductions in the government subsidies they receive, BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation sees a new role for itself in helping these organisations to step up their campaigning, with a view to broadening their sources of funding. “This role as partner and facilitator, helping non-profits and charities to take advantage of a Philanthopy 2.0 approach, is entirely complementary with our more traditional Corporate Philanthropy efforts,” underlined BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation General Manager Anne-France Simon.

In January BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation launched a crowdfunding pilot project – a sort of incubator to help charities crowdfund their projects. Since then, ten non-profit-making organisations have succeeded – with the help of volunteer Bank staff – in getting their crowdfunding campaigns up and running on the Ulule site.

Among the ideas developed via the incubator are: a project to arrange a few days of holiday for children placed in care; another to get problem youngsters who have broken with their parents back into dialogue with them; a third to build a play area for children at a foster home; and another to run cooking workshops for isolated young people who lack educational qualifications.
