Saturday, 13 October sees the launch of a major drive at Kinepolis cinemas entitled ‘Culture in Cinema’. Gaetano Donizetti’s comic opera L'Elisir d'Amore (The Love Potion) awaits those looking for their first taste of opera during the 2012-2013 season.
‘Opera in Cinema’ will already be known to lovers of this musical art form. Now ‘Culture in Cinema’ takes the initiative one step further by screening not only renowned operas but also regaling ballet fans and lovers of dance, theatre and classical music with their favourites on the big screen.
All performances will be relayed live from the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the National Theatre in London or the Berliner Philharmoniker in Berlin. Culture lovers who go to Kinepolis to enjoy the show will be offered a glass of cava, an introduction to the work and also a little peek ‘behind the curtain’, plus live interviews with performers and technical staff. To complete the ‘package’, every visitor will receive a high-quality guidebook setting out the full programme offered by Kinepolis.
‘Culture in Cinema’ is a huge initiative, with as many as 1,700 cinemas in 54 countries participating. Kinepolis runs eleven movie-houses across Belgium.
