An enhanced and more environmentally-friendly approach. On 15 October, Peoplesphere magazine, in conjunction with Zoomit, ran a seminar on electronic payslips at the Federation des Entreprises de Belgiques / Verbond van Belgische Ondernemingen premises in Brussels. As a pioneer in this field, BNP Paribas Fortis seized this excellent opportunity to share experiences with other companies.
At BNP Paribas Fortis we began using electronic payslips in July last year. The move immediately met with an enthusiastic reception and today 16,750 current staff members and early retirees – i.e. over 83% of the total – have opted to switch over to the new method. The electronic document contains all the same information as the paper equivalent in terms of figures and calculations but the layout and general readability of the payslip have been considerably improved.
Via the Zoomit function, each employee can access his or her payslip in pdf format in PC banking, the secure online banking environment. PC Banking is one of the safest applications of its kind on the internet and BNP Paribas Fortis invests on a regular basis in order to maintain this level of security. Its use therefore guarantees a high degree of confidentiality in salary matters.
Having set out along the right path, BNP Paribas Fortis was of course not going to simply stop there. In April, staff tax slips joined the payslip in the PC banking environment and the annual salary statement, showing total working hours and remuneration for the year just ended, is scheduled to follow suit shortly.

The presentations from the seminar are available on the Peoplesphere website in Dutch or French.
An electronic payslip offers numerous advantages. It not only enables us to cut down considerably on the amount of paper used, which in the case of BNP Paribas Fortis means around five tons saved each year, but we make cost savings in distribution as well. It’s also more efficient: you won’t find your payslip arriving late, getting lost or ending up by mistake in the hands of your nosey neighbour!
Electronic payslips can be stored in digital form in a secure environment – i.e. the BNP Paribas Fortis PC banking platform. The employer has to deal with fewer questions and doesn’t need to keep producing duplicates, as staff can consult their payslips at any time. Moreover, all this means that both company and employee have the feeling that they are really doing something to reduce the overall environmental footprint.
