On 17 September, a very special BNP Paribas Fortis social solidarity initiative got under way. For every ‘check-in’ via the foursquare® geolocation app at one of our branches, BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation undertook to provide a meal for distribution to the needy by the public food banks. The initiative really caught on fast and the target of 5,000 meals for distribution was reached well before the scheduled closing date of 17 October.
The Bank’s action thus helped to ensure that some of the most needy people in Belgium were able to eat a proper meal every day – a clear illustration of BNP Paribas Fortis’ determined corporate social responsibility policy.
The specific food bank operation has now concluded. However, both clients and non-clients of the Bank can still ‘check in’ at BNP Paribas Fortis premises. We have registered all our branches and private banking centres, plus twenty or so of our central buildings, as ‘venues’ on foursquare®. See also our press release of 28 August in Dutch or French.
Both the food banks and BNP Paribas Fortis Foundation would like to convey their sincere thanks to all those who took part in the initiative for their kind efforts.
foursquare® is the latest hit social networking app. Using the GPS function on your smartphone, the application pinpoints your location and indicates registered venues in the area. The idea is to collect as many points as possible by ‘checking in’ at local venues and/or publishing tips for other users. Accumulating points enables users to win social rewards in the form of badges and to gain the title of ‘mayor’ of venues they frequent.
