A European label for our sustainable mortgages

That's why BNP Paribas Fortis is the first Belgian bank to collaborate with the independent foundation Energy Efficient Mortgage Label, which validates the ecological goal of the green home mortgages we offer, at a favourable rate too.

Towards a greener and more transparent portfolio

The following will be able to benefit from this label: new builds and, in the near future, the purchase of A-labelled energy efficient housing, as well as renovations that increase the energy efficiency of homes by at least 30 %.

"Going through a completely independent body based on strict European standards was the obvious choice", explains Elisabeth Minjauw (Program Director for Legal Mandatory Credits and President of the European Mortgage Federation). "We firmly believe in transparency and confirm our commitment to society."

 

Raising awareness is already a move forward

Ultimately, we shall also be able to communicate, in complete transparency, on the development of our portfolio. Our ambition is clear: we want to be able to apply this label to more and more mortgages.

"As the country's leading bank, we're convinced it's our duty to act to protect the environment. That's why we also want to make our customers aware of this", says Elisabeth Minjauw. "When we know that a third of the CO² emissions linked to real estate concern residential buildings, taking action at this level must become a priority. That's why a dedicated department within Retail & Private Banking is now dealing with the sustainable approach."

A well-insulated, eco-friendly home is not only good for the environment, but also for your wallet. "It often doesn't take much to make your home more eco-friendly. As well as enjoying a more comfortable home, you'll reduce your energy bills and increase the value of your property. Studies show that a more eco-friendly home is worth on average 10 % more than a conventional home", concludes Elisabeth Minjauw.
