BNP Paribas Fortis has a long standing relationship with AVAE/VVBA or the Association pour la Valorisation des Archives d’Entreprises/VVBA of Vereniging voor de Valorisatie van Bedrijfsarchieven which gives advice on how to manage the Fortis Historical Centre. AVAE/VVBA is a non-profit association which was founded in 1986. It works with the Belgian State Archives to ensure that company archives are preserved and promoted. It is the oldest association governed by Belgian law that is active in the field of company archives.

Furthermore, BNP Paribas Fortis is a member of EABH (European Association for Banking History). The European Association for Banking History was founded in November 1990 as a forum for research into banking history. Within a short time it had developed into an internationally recognised organisation, highly respected for its work in the field of banking history and archiving.

The European Business History Association was established at the end of 1994 as the professional body for individuals interested in the development of business and management in Europe from the earliest time to the present day. The Association aims to promote research, teaching and general awareness of all aspects of European business and management history.
