Queen Elisabeth International Music competition

The Queen Elisabeth Competition was first held in 1937 on the initiative of Queen Elisabeth of Belgium herself and her court conductor Eugène Ysaÿe. Since then, it has established itself as an extremely prestigious event in the musical calendar, guaranteeing the very highest quality.
The Competition is aimed at young virtuosos from all over the world who are preparing themselves for an international career. The annual sessions focus alternately on piano, singing and violin on the one hand, and composition on the other. The composition element takes place before the instrumental sessions, with the winning work becoming a compulsory piece for competitors in the piano and violin categories.
BNP Paribas Fortis is proud to have sponsored this international music competition for the 18th time, confirming its support for young talent. What’s more, in collaboration with “Jeugd & Muziek / Jeunesses Musicales” and several other music organisations, BNP Paribas Fortis offers a large number of young musicians the opportunity to attend semi-final concerts, to bring them a little closer to achieving their own musical dreams.
